Boxed in

Confinement is one of my favourite artworks. I created it for a charity exhibition where it had to be postcard-sized. The small format felt restrictive, so I leaned into that to express the idea of feeling boxed in.
I’m sure we’ve all felt that at some point - a job you want to leave but you stay for security; a relationship that’s run its course but you’re tied to it financially or emotionally. Basically any situation where you feel trapped and can’t get out quickly enough.
The original of this painting sold, but A4 prints are available in my shop.

Confinement. The posture and locs illustrate the feeling of being restricted and boxed in.
Here’s a poem I wrote about that same feeling:
Help. Help
Can anyone hear me?
There’s no way out that I can see.
How will I ever get free?
What will become of me?
It’s just so dark. I can’t see a way.
I’ll take Mum’s advice and on it pray.
Ok, ok, I need to plan what to do.
Let’s think this through logically.
Let’s think this one through.
This tribulation will not last.
Like other trials, this too shall pass.
Things could be worse; half-full, my glass.
For now, I’ll make do with the box that I’m in.
I see a crack. I see the light shining in.
Thanks for reading. If this post resonated, please leave a heart or a comment, I’d love to hear your thoughts.
